WINTER SOLSTICE

In 1984 the curator at the Morris Museum asked me to create something for a winter solstice show. I started working on this piece but couldn't make the deadline. Eight years and 1,500 hours later I finished it.

Druids at winter solstice would cut mistletoe with a gold sickle. Kissing under mistletoe may have started with this ceremony.

Were Druids 2 men, 2 women or a mix? We only know the folklore.

Winter solstice was also the eve of fertility.

The tree branch is fused glass bark. The sickle is gold-plated.
